Jomsom Muktinath trek is a popular trek in Nepal, which is a part of Annapurna circuit trek. Also, it links the Annapurna Base Camp trek trail up to Ghorepani Poon Hill. It lies in a spectacular landscape, and it offers the breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri peaks. Walk along the gorge of Kali Gandaki River with appealing green forests, valleys and hills.

To start Jomsom Muktinath trek, you travel to Pokhara by a tourist bus. Pokhara is a beautiful city of Nepal and is also known as the city of lakes. Pokhara is famous for paragliding, boating, and a panoramic view of mountains. Mt. Machhapurchhre, Lamjung Himal, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Mt. Manaslu can see from Pokhara. The journey of Muktinath begins from Pokhara by traveling to Nayapul in a private vehicle. This short trip involves driving at the hill by showing the beautiful Himalaya and plus views of Pokhara and Phewa lake. Also, you can see how paragliders cover azure sky just over the lake, city and nearby Mt. Machhapurchhre. Hiking to Poon Hill at the altitude of 3210m through scenic Gurung and Magar villages. Poon Hill is the most popular viewpoint for sunrise over the Himalaya. And also a single complete trek Poon Hill Ghorepani of a week.

Jomsom Muktinath trip is also popular in Hindus and Buddhist community. Hindus believe in salvation, and bathing in the waters of Muktinath is thought to lead to the salvation of the soul after death. And to the Buddhist, it is the place where Guru Rinpoche meditated. Inside the compound, there is a Buddhist Gompa and a Vishnu temple, it is the symbol of good interfaith. Muktinath is also popular with 108 waterspouts.

This trip also gives a taste of Upper Mustang. From Jomsom, the field is similar to Mustang, and the valley of Jomsom is well known as the windy valley. Jomsom Bazaar is the headquarter of Mustang district too. And also the ending point of the trek. Flying out from the Jomsom the trip of the Himalayas will be over by landing at Pokhara.

Itinerary

Welcome to Nepal! We will receive you the airport and transport you to hotel.

An Apex  Asia Holidays representative will organize a small pre-trip meeting at the hotel lobby before commencing the day trip. Please bring a copy of your passport, travel insurance document and three passport-size photos.

Then we head off for sightseeing of the Kathmandu Valley. You will visit three main places: Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most revered temples for Hindus. Every year thousands of pilgrims visit the temple from different countries. Bouddhanath is located in the outskirts of Kathmandu city and is a holy Buddhist monument. Meeting monks, learning about Buddhism and stupa dome is the main attractions of Bouddhanath. Finally, Bhaktapur Durbar Square large premises of ancient house and temples is a settlement of local ethnicity called Newars. Fifty-five-window Palace, golden temple, pottery house are definitely worth a visit in the tour.

After the tour, we head back to Thamel, where our guide will help you with checking gears required for the trek. There are plenty of trekking shops in Thamel, so you can rent or purchase if you’ve missed anything to bring.

This is a quite an exciting day for trekkers because after breakfast, we reach the bus station for a drive to the scenic lakeside city of Pokhara. The drive is about 7 hours and goes through scenic countryside of central Nepal. We stop for lunch at Gunadi at around 11:30am, and reach Pokhara in another 2 hours. Pokhara is a holiday city, and looking at the lakes, hills and mountains, it is no wonder why it is so well known. Wide panorama of Annapurna range is clearly visible from the city, most notably Machhapuchare (Fishtail mountain) that prominently overlooks Pokhara. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu also tower above.

After 1.5 hour drive from Pokhara, you reach Nayapul then short trek through the bank of the river of Modi Khola to get to Birethanti, a large village with teahouses and shops. When you reach Ramghai, we stop for lunch. After lunch, the trails continue to the north along the banks of Bhurungdi Khola. Then steadily up the trails we head to the north to reach Tikhehdunga, at an altitude of 1570m. We stop here for the day and check into a guesthouse.

After a steep climb to Ulleri at the start of the day, the most difficult part of the trek will be behind us. Ulleri is a large village of Magar ethnic group that lies at an altitude of 2070m. Now the walking path gradually ascends from the point to Banthanti through the oaks and rhododendrons forest. Banthati is a place for lunch where you reach in 3.5 hrs from Tikhedhunga. Trail heads up to Ghorepani (2840m) via Nangethanti (2460).

Get up early in the wee hours of the morning to hike up to Poon Hill (3210m). The stunning sunrise view over the mountains is really worth all the effort and waking up early. After spending about an hour on the hill, we head down to Tatopani. We stop for lunch at Sikha. Hot springs at Tatopani will be perfect to dip into in the evening with a drink or two.

The trail goes through the world’s deepest gorge in Kali Gandaki valley that lies in between two of the world’s highest mountains: Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Continuing the trail, we gradulaly climb up to Dana and past Rupse Chhahara, a magnificent waterfall, cross Kopchepani suspension bridge to reach Ghasa (2010m).

We continue on the trail head to Tukuche today, entering the windy valley. We cross several rives get to Larjung (2560m) and continue to Kobang village on narrow alleyways and then reach Thakali village of Tukche. Along the trail, you can see many apple orchards this region is well known for.

We start walking into more arid landscape now on gradual uphill along the Kali Gandaki river. We reach the pristine village of Marpha which is made up of traditional houses, monasteries, largest apple orchard in the region, and apple brandy distillery among other attractions. The trail goes on to climb to Jomsom, the largest town in Mustang, and then along the riverbanks we make our way to Kagbeni on fairly flat trails.

Today the trail climbs along the Jong Khola and then joins the trail to Muktinath via Jharkot (3500m). Jharkot is perfect to visit and worthwhile, where you will have your lunch. After lunch trail heads to Muktinath (3802m), a holy town in the region where thousands of pilgrims especially Hindus and Buddhists visit every year; September is a prime month to visit. Literally, Muktinath means a place of Nirvana, home of Muktinath Temple and monasteries. Lord Vishnu is the main god the Temple, the attractions of the temple are 108 waterspouts and Jwala Mai Temple. Jwala Mai is a temple which has a natural eternal flame.

The trail from Muktinath to Jomsom descends onto Eklebhatti and follows the Kali Gandaki River. Jomsom is the largest town and district capital of Mustang. It is the final point of this trek and the following morning you will fly out to Pokhara from Jomsom Airport.

A short 25-min flight from Jomsom takes us to the lakeside city of Pokhara. In the afternoon you will have a sightseeing tour around Pokhara valley, which covers Fewa Lake, Devis Waterfall, Museums, and Gupteshwor cave, etc.

In Nepal, there are two kinds of transport, public and private. We mostly recommend you to use the private than the public because the roads two ways that make traffic, and the private vehicle can avoid the traffic by choosing the proper time for less traffic.

However, in the cities, there are multiple options to chose the hotel from general guesthouse to a five-star hotel.

Trekking is the popular trekking ventures in Nepal, which is always in the High Himalaya and where we have the chance to get altitude sickness. So, it is highly recommended to learn more about the High Altitude Sickness before you start the trek. Hurry can be deadly in Nepal Himalaya. Walk slow, and give enough time to your body to fit in the high altitude. Drinking more water and stepping slowly with rest is the best protection against altitude sickness.

It is necessary to have travel insurance before you embark on any trip. The insurance policy should include the cost of medical expenses, any damage or loss of your luggage, and cancellation.
