Overview

The Annapurna Circuit biking trail is one of best biking routes of Nepal. The incredible beauty, the dramatic landscapes and of the legendary people inhabiting this remote and mystical land always fascinates bikers. The starting path is in the lowland through terrace field and villages. Enter the misty subtropical jungle, and continue through the pine forest to come face to face with spectacular typical Himalayan landscape, naked rocks and snow capped high Himalaya.

Enjoying with nature, reach Manang, a high Himalaya settlement for generations. And on the trail, we visit various monasteries and mane walls. On a special day, we can see traditional dance of the lamas, adorned with monks dress, wearing the mask of demons, playing drums in the shadow of enormous mountains. And finally reach highest passes of the Nepal, Thorang La pass (5416m), pedalling continues and crosses one of the famous Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage sites – Muktinath.

Itinerary

Welcome to Nepal! We will receive you the airport and transport you to hotel.

An Apex  Asia Holidays representative will organize a small pre-trip meeting at the hotel lobby before commencing the day trip. Please bring a copy of your passport, travel insurance document and three passport-size photos.

Then we head off for sightseeing of the Kathmandu Valley. You will visit three main places: Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most revered temples for Hindus. Every year thousands of pilgrims visit the temple from different countries. Bouddhanath is located in the outskirts of Kathmandu city and is a holy Buddhist monument. Meeting monks, learning about Buddhism and stupa dome is the main attractions of Bouddhanath. Finally, Bhaktapur Durbar Square large premises of ancient house and temples is a settlement of local ethnicity called Newars. Fifty-five-window Palace, golden temple, pottery house are definitely worth a visit in the tour.

After the tour, we head back to Thamel, where our guide will help you with checking gears required for the trek. There are plenty of trekking shops in Thamel, so you can rent or purchase if you’ve missed anything to bring.

We drive early in the morning to Besi Sahar, which is the trailhead of our biking trip. We spend the afternoon preparing equipment, managing porters and an optional warm up ride.

The first 7km is jeep tracks, where the track will finish and we push the bike up steep rocky bits. We then descend 1km down to the valley surrounding Tal. The remoteness and marvelous site always fascinate us.

After leaving Tal, there is a Mani Wall, these should always be passed from the left side, i.e. clockwise. Along the road, we pass green corn, barley and potatoes field and the valley becomes narrow again. From Tal to Danaku it involves large percent of push and carries. Once we cross Danaku then the most rideable path with closer views of snow-capped peaks and reach Chame, where we can enjoy and feel relax.

Today we ascend through the pine forest, and the dirt trails lead you through villages and settlements and get the opportunity locals, peoples.

The path goes through a dense forest in a steep, narrow valley. Continue trail along the river to Pisang, where the altitude is enough to bring the symptoms of AMS. We will pass through Humde and Varga with its monastery rooted in Tibetan religion.

Physical activity starts getting tough because of altitude and a steady climb up. Today we are heading toward Yak Kharka at the altitude of 4,010m from the sea level. We have to go slowly and enjoy the scenery and culture.

We gain altitude each day that makes our ride very strenuous, as we reach Thorong Phedi. It is very important to prepare mentally and physically for the highest climb of next day. The hill surrounding scenery impresses and encourages riding.

Early morning we cross Thorong- La Pass because the trail gets windy from late morning, making it difficult to cross the pass. It takes approximately 4 hours to reach the top, which is about 3km, and 100% carry for bikers. Once we reach the top the path descends rapidly on a very steep slope, it is a technical riding. In about 45 minutes we reach Muktinath (3,800m) and enter the medieval village of Kagbeni before Mustang.

Today we descend to tropical lowland from snow-capped peaks. Leaving the Kagbeni the trail follows a wide riverbed leading into the Jomsom. The trail then follows the rough jeep tracks descending through villages Marpha and Khopang.

Today we will have full day sightseeing in Pokhara. The places we visit are Fewa Lake, Begnas Lake, Devis waterfall, museums, Tibetan refugee settlement and Gupteshower cave. You will have a relaxing evening.

Trekking is the popular trekking ventures in Nepal, which is always in the High Himalaya and where we have the chance to get altitude sickness. So, it is highly recommended to learn more about the High Altitude Sickness before you start the trek. Hurry can be deadly in Nepal Himalaya. Walk slow, and give enough time to your body to fit in the high altitude. Drinking more water and stepping slowly with rest is the best protection against altitude sickness.

It is necessary to have travel insurance before you embark on any trip. The insurance policy should include the cost of medical expenses, any damage or loss of your luggage, and cancellation.
